Report of Anti-Submarine Action by Surface Ship

16 May 1943

This is the official report (filed 17 May 1943) on the action taken by the USS MacKenzie and the USS Laub in response to the surface radar contact first made by the MacKenzie.

The submarine was the U-182.

Included in the file is the official analysis of the action taken by the USS MacKenzie in response to the surface radar contact.

The interesting aspect of this report is that it not only concluded that the attack was a failure, but it is very critical of the entire incident, referring to it as a "rather sad pair of attacks."

It's doubtful that the crew of the U-182 came to the same conclusion.
